Hajj & Umrah

What is the difference between Umrah and Hajj?

Umrah may be performed at any time of the year, but Hajj is performed during the month of Dhul Hijjah every year.

Who can perform Hajj?

An adult Muslim of sane mind and able body, having the means to bear the expenses, must perform Hajj once in his or her lifetime. Hajj is not obligatory for children, the sick, or those who cannot bear the costs.

Who is eligible to go on Umrah?

Only Muslims can enter Makkah and perform Umrah.

How long does it take to perform Hajj?

Normally 5 to 6 days, though there are exceptions.

Booking & Payment

What is the Hajj 2027 payment plan?

50% is due at the time of booking, 25% by 15 September 2026, and the remaining 25% by 15 December 2026.

What documents are required for the Hajj application?

A passport copy (valid to 30 November 2027), two 4x3cm photographs on a white background, a NIC/ID card copy (NADRA), next-of-kin ID card, contact number and relation, the passenger's blood group, and a children's B-Form (NADRA) where applicable.

Is the airline ticket included in the Hajj package price?

No. Package prices exclude the airline ticket, which is approximately PKR 335,000 from Karachi and PKR 345,000 from North Pakistan (fares vary for Hajis travelling from international destinations). Qurbani is also excluded — assistance in arranging it is included, at an approximate charge of US$200.

What happens if I need to cancel my Hajj booking?

If cancelled due to an emergency before 15 December 2026, a full refund is issued after deducting US$350 per person in service charges. After 15 December 2026 and before Hajj visa issuance, the booking is treated as a substitution — you may nominate another person or the operator may offer the package to a waitlisted applicant — with the same US$350 per person service charge deducted.

What is the first thing I should do to make a reservation for Hajj?

Choose one of our programmes — you can see them on this website or in the brochure available at our office. Once you have chosen, you may reserve your quota with us on payment, or call Universal Brothers for details.

What happens after I make a reservation and pay the deposit?

If any information is missing, a sales representative will contact you to complete the reservation. Once it is complete, you receive a confirmation by telephone or email.

When is the deadline for payment?

The Hajj 2027 payment plan is 50% at the time of booking, 25% by 15 September 2026 and 25% by 15 December 2026. Cancellation before 15 December 2026 is refunded after deducting US$ 350 per person as service charges; after that date the booking is treated as a substitution.

Are there any hidden fees in the packages?

No. The Hajj 2027 package includes Qurbani, full-board buffet meals in Mina and Arafat, half board in the Makkah and Madinah hotels, Mashaer transport and the Hajj e-visa service. Optional extras such as a Kaaba-view room, an Aziziya family room or VIP transport are charged separately and listed on each package page.

How much are the packages?

Prices vary by programme. All 26 Hajj 2027 packages are listed on this website in rupees, with the rate for a double, triple or quad room shown on each one.

Review every document and confirmation to be sure there is no mistake in the arrangements made for you. If there is, contact Universal Brothers as soon as possible so we can correct it. Please note that this does not mean changes can be made to your reservation.

What documents do you need from me?

A passport copy valid to 30 November 2027, two photographs 4 x 3 cm on a white background, a CNIC copy (and B-Form for children), next-of-kin ID, contact number and relationship, and your blood group.

Rooms & Accommodation

How many people stay in a room?

Hotel rooms are sold as double, triple or quad — the Makkah and Madinah hotels have double rooms, and an extra bed is added for triple and quad. In our Aziziya building the average is four people to a room, with family rooms available on supplement.

Where do I stay in Makkah?

Your accommodation is arranged by Universal Brothers. There are different levels — from hotels in front of the Haram (InterContinental, Fairmont, Swissotel, Makkah Tower, Voco, Pullman Zamzam) to our A-Class Aziziya building. The package you select names the hotel.

Where do I stay in Mina?

Mina is a well-organised tent city with sectors and a secure precinct. Our camp is in Zone 1, Maktab A-Category, near the Jamarat: air-conditioned tents with an average of 16 people to a tent, sofa-cum-beds of 50–55 cm, and private toilets for our group. Smaller tents — 12, 8 or 5 people — and family tents with attached bathrooms are available on supplement.

How much is one room per night?

It depends on the package you choose. Extra nights in Madinah are charged per night per person — double PKR 231,000, triple PKR 169,400 and quad PKR 168,600.

Do you charge children for the hotel room?

Call Universal Brothers for details.

How do I move around Makkah? Is there public transport?

Travel within Saudi Arabia is highly restricted during Hajj. Pilgrims travel between Makkah, Madinah, the tent cities of Mina and Arafat, and Muzdalifah. Taxis are available at extra cost. From our Aziziya building there is a shuttle to the Haram.

How far is Mina from Makkah, and Arafat from Mina?

Makkah to Mina is about 8 kilometres (5 miles); depending on traffic it can take 2 to 4 hours, and walking is sometimes quicker. Mina to Arafat is about 14.4 kilometres (9 miles).

Who provides transport to the hotel?

Universal Brothers provides all the transport.

Health & Vaccination

Do I need any vaccinations?

The Saudi Ministry of Health requires every visitor to hold a valid vaccination certificate against meningococcal meningitis, issued not more than three years and not less than 10 days before arrival. Travellers arriving from countries known to be infected with yellow fever must also present a valid yellow fever certificate.

What kind of vaccination do we have to take?

Any meningitis vaccine is valid, along with anything else required by the K.S.A. or the W.H.O.

For how many years is the vaccination valid?

Three years.

Do my children need the meningitis vaccine?

A child of 10 years or younger does not need the vaccine.

Where can I find the meningitis vaccine?

At any leading pharmacy chain. Universal Brothers also arranges meningitis vaccinations for our travellers.

Where do I go if I am ill? Are there hospitals in Makkah?

There are many hospitals providing free healthcare for pilgrims.

Are over-the-counter medicines available in Makkah?

Most over-the-counter medicine is available at pharmacies in Makkah. If you are used to a particular brand, or take prescribed medication, bring adequate supplies with you.

What are the facilities for disabled pilgrims?

Hajj is physically demanding and should be undertaken only by those fit enough to perform the rites. That said, many disabled Muslims do perform Hajj with adequate preparation — please discuss your needs with us in detail before booking. Jeddah airport has facilities for the disabled. Buses are not equipped for wheelchairs, and hotels and buildings are generally not equipped either, apart from some of the top hotels. The Grand Mosque in Makkah is well equipped, with escalators and ramps; wheelchairs are free of charge there, though anyone pushing one will charge for the service.

Ihram

What is Ihram and how should I wear it?

For men, Ihram is two pieces of white sheet. Wrap the larger sheet around the waist to cover the body from the navel to the ankles, secured with a belt or a strip of the same fabric, and drape the other over the back and shoulders. Wear sandals or shoes that do not cover the ankles. The head is not covered and no underwear is worn. White is preferred.

Should women wear Ihram?

Women may make Ihram in any dress that fulfils the Islamic conditions of public dress, of any colour. The hands and face stay uncovered; the head is covered.

What should I avoid while in the state of Ihram?

A Muhrim keeps the head uncovered at all times (women keep the head covered); does not shave, cut hair, clip nails, use perfume or wear sewn clothes of any kind; does not perform a marriage or get married; does not kill an animal of any kind unless it poses a danger; and does not enter into conjugal relations, avoiding suggestive talk or gestures, remaining focused on Hajj.

Packing & Clothing

What clothing should I take to Saudi Arabia?

The essentials are two or three sets of Ihram — white plain cloth, 100% cotton or light terry-cloth, cool to wear and absorbent. Take light, airy clothes for street wear: enough to be comfortable, but do not burden yourself, as professional laundry is available in Saudi Arabia. For Hajj in the winter months, take some woollen clothing, as the early mornings are cool. Also take three or four pairs of rubber slippers for use during Ihram, a couple of pairs of comfortable shoes or sandals for walking, two large and two small towels, and — if you wish — a sleeping bag, an inflatable pillow and thick sheets.

What should I NOT bring to Saudi Arabia?

Perishable or un-canned food in large quantities is not allowed. Alcohol and drugs must never be brought into the Kingdom — the punishments are severe and can include capital punishment.

Where can I wash my clothes?

There are professional laundry services, though few coin-operated launderettes. Detergent for light clothing is available in the local market.

What is the significance of my ID card and luggage tags?

Wear your ID card at all times, from your departure from Pakistan until you leave Saudi Arabia, so any Universal Brothers representative can recognise you and help you. The luggage tags let your luggage be identified throughout the trip.

Money, Weather & Time

What is the Saudi currency?

The Saudi riyal, made up of 100 halalas. Banknotes come in 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 and 500 riyals, and coins in 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100 halalas. The riyal has been fixed against the US dollar since 1986.

Are there banks in Makkah and Madinah?

Yes — branches of several large national and international banks.

What are bank opening hours?

Usually 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Saturday to Wednesday, and Thursday mornings only.

Do banks change foreign currency?

Yes.

Do banks cash travellers' cheques?

Travellers' cheques can be cashed almost anywhere. Since your passport is held for the duration of your stay by the Saudi authorities in Jeddah, the ID card issued by your Tawafa Establishment is used for cashing cheques. Keep the purchase receipt with you — without it, cashing them is harder.

What is the weather like in Makkah and Madinah?

Very hot in the summer months, reaching the upper 40s °C (over 100 °F) during the day. In winter the weather is mild, but early mornings and late nights can be cold.

What is the time difference in Makkah?

UTC/GMT + 3 hours, with no daylight saving time at present.

Is the drinking water safe?

You may drink bottled mineral water or from the water fountains throughout the holy sites. Boiled or sterilised water is not a must. Zamzam water is always safe.

Is the food safe? What should I avoid?

Avoid exposed food and meat from the counter. Eat cooked meat and fish, preferably hot; cook vegetables and peel fruit; and always boil milk. In our own camp, meals are a full-board buffet of Pakistani and continental cuisine in Mina and Arafat, and in the Aziziya building.

Can I use my mobile phone in Saudi Arabia?

Yes. SIM cards valid for a month are available over the counter in most phone shops in Makkah and Madinah. Before leaving, make sure your phone accepts any SIM card rather than being tied to one network.

What do I do if I get lost?

Pilgrim Assistance Booths are set up all over and will help you find your hotel or tent. Keep your ID card and bracelet with you at all times, and agree with your group on a well-known landmark to gather at if anyone gets separated.
